A few weeks ago, there was a discussion about how to model MU hoses on diesel units.  At that time, I mentioned that I thought that the BTS MU hoses were too large, and I was going to search for some HO alternatives.

Attached is a photo of an American Models GP-35 with a Details West HO MU-hose casting.  According to a chart published in Railroad Model Craftsman, air brake hoses are about 2.125 to 2.25 inches in diameter, while MU hoses are about 1.0 to 1.375 inches in diameter.  Visually, MU hoses are much thinner than air brake hoses.

Measuring the hoses on the GP-35 in the photo, the BTS air brake hose is 2.25 inches in diameter and the Details West MU hoses are 1.0 inch in diameter -- perfect.

The HO MU hose castings are:
Details West MU-294 (3 hose clusters)
Details West MU-295 (4 hose clusters)

The 4-hose clusters are for older diesel units, which include an MU hose to control sanders.  Newer units generally have 3-hose MU clusters.

Hope this information is of some help.
