From: Alan Lambert Fort Worth, Texas David, On diesels the MU hoses are the electrical connection between the two loco's so that power can be controled from the lead engine. That is how a long coal train supplies power to the multiple pulling loco's, and the end pusher loco's. It is how the engineer can add power to the other lashups behind the lead engine.
