"S"eems to me that MTH purchased SHS only a few months ago -- maybe Fall 2012?
(Don't remember the exact date.)
Since then MTH has announced an SD-70 -- the same engine Lionel has in
production with expected delivery in a couple of months. MTH has stated (in
magazine interviews) that the F units will probably be first since the MTH O
gauge electronics will fit into the body shell. I seem to recall a prediction
that repaints of existing molded bodies will come first before anything really
new. Mike himself, or one of his underlings, said MTH "will take care of" the
scale side of S. What that means exactly is open to interpretaion.
The MTH cataog has been announced and will be available shortly. Then we will
know.....sort of. If pre-orders fall short of the magic number, then catalog
items might well disappear. And nobody knows if the magic number is realistic
or not.
Perhaps MTH does not want to tip their hand to the honorable competition about
their plans. Sometimes a company will announce a new product for no other
reason than to siphon off orders for the same product going to a competitor.
Sort of like the SD-70. How is that for an uneducated guess? IBM used to do
that sort of thing all the time.
I can't wait for the buzz whenever the next catalog comes out from most any
company. Sort of like sex, half the excitement is in the anticipation.
Cheers...Ed Loizeaux (who actually signs both first and last name)
