Although, I generally agree with you...some of our S manufacturers have been fooled by guys 'stuffing the ballet box' for a particular prototype too. I would love to see Milwaukee horizontal ribbed passenger cars in S, and I would campaign for them (aka Walther's recent releases), but I also realize that sales would be dismal. However if you model either the Milw or the UP (after 56') you would be in RR heaven.

A good friend who models in HO frequently does product reviews for foreign importers who understand the business but not the model itself. So that is another issue that needs to be understood. My understanding is that some have been asked to advise, but whether it will sink in is another matter.

BTW, I've had two day's of password issues with MRH magazine, but I understand a Spiral Hill hopper is due to arrive on the GPNTRR in the next day or two. Right now the 4 member railroads are arguing who will handle the shipment.

Those companies who are run by S people have the distinct advantage of knowing the S market, which can be complex due to the scale vs highrail factor. Companies like Korber don't work out because they fail to ascertain what will sell to the S market. This is purely hypothetical, but a company like MTH would do good to hire a consultant like Don T. who could advise them of just what products would sell well.
