Roy,

Thanks, as I mentioned it took me several tries to get properly logged in, so when it happened I was getting ready to go on assignment thus the haste. I'll follow your link in the future.

Regarding depth of field, if you look at one of the images (CNW switcher) you will notice it was labeled 'stack' as Roy Inman mentions. Here I combined three images to keep "what I wanted" sharp. I really wanted to feature the hopper, not the engine or background scene. So I kept them out of focus. If I would have added a couple more focus changes it would have been sharp from the nearest to furthurest point. I shot the image with a Nikon tilt/shift 85mm lens so depth of field is really tight. Tilting the lens to one side let me follow the plane of the rolling stock rather than just equal distant from the lens. This is a feature that was mostly reserved for the large format view cameras. I only own one and they are expensive, but one more is in my bucket list.

I will have a layout feature in the next few months (fingers crossed) in Model Railroader where nearly every shot was stacked this way. You Pennsy guys will hopefully like this feature despite it's HO track. I also used this technique on Bob & Brian Jackson's layout which should follow sometime later this year.

I don't know if the majority of the point and shoot cameras will handle this type of technique. However, the much smaller sensor size of those cameras makes much of that unnecessary.

Very nice. You'll probably knock their HO socks off.

They will probably tell you that you can load pictures directly to your post instead of having links. There's an instructional video at:

I hope more of us join in.
