Maybe in some cases there is a trade-off involved. MTH is a far larger company than SHS was. I suspect just the marketing budget for MTH was more than SHS¹s entire operating expenses.
While SHS made some of the finest S products ever and certainly gave the best service of any manufacturer, the power of economics that MTH can bring to bear on the scale will be greater than even A.C. Gilbert could have imagined. I also suspect that we will see more scale offerings of a greater variety and quality than we have seen before. However, all of that wherewithall is not cheap. To maybe, MAYBE, finally get some RTR scale 85¹ passenger cars, to get some mass-produced Daylights, two or three turnout options, etc., perhaps we might have to pay more. That would not surprise me, but I think that to assume higher price is a foregone conclusion is to decide with unabashed certainty who wins the Super Bowl before the game is played.
