Hello Mel; Jon Zahornacky is the "Chief Technology Officer" for Lionel. Basically, he designs and writes code for the electronics inside the models and may also make decisions about other aspects of the design like swinging pilots, "China" drive power truck vs. center motor drive, etc.
It appears Ed knows how to contact him, but in the spirit of teaching us how to fish rather than giving us a fish, wants us to do the leg work. I will not say anymore since Ed. is currently indisposed from posting to the list for reasons not directly related his methods of prompting us to "get some skin in the game". Probably the easiest way to contact him is to sign up for the O Gauge Railroading forum. They have a S scale section on which a number of people from this list also post, and Jon answers questions there as well.
