I uploaded two pictures to the L&W album of some test tracks I built in 2007.
The first picture shows two parallel dual gauge tracks. The S/Sn3 track is
Code 83 with etched tie plates once made by Simon Parent. The Sn3/Sn2 track is
Code 70 without tie plates. All spikes are Proto:87 Stores 150% (of HO)
spikes.

The second picture is of some Sn3 Code 55 track. I used standard pine ties on
the left and on the right I used ties cut from bamboo skewers in an attempt to
see how they would work to model logging railroad track that didn’t use cut
ties. Because bamboo is rather hard, I had to drill a hole for every spike.
Again, I used the 150% spikes. I normally use the longer ones since they are
easier to use. I only use the short ones for bridges, etc., where I don’t want
the spikes to stick through the bottom of the ties.
