Kelly, I wired my 25' x 44' layout 15 years ago and used literally hundreds of suitcase connectors for both the DCC/track wiring and for the DC circuit for building lighting. I have not had a single connector fail. I highly recommend them, as long as you get good, high quality ones. Don't buy on price. I use 3M brand that I get from Mouser Electronics. Also, be sure you use the correct sizes for the wires being joined (there are many different sizes for joining all different wire sizes) and be sure you use the proper tool for 'crimping' them closed. I used channel lock pliers as they have their 'faces' close parallel to each other. There are also pliers made specifically for these type of connectors. The biggest advantages, of course, are they don't require striping wires, require no soldering and no tape. I'm not aware of any disadvantages.
