want to capture the scale market. All these scale modelers are not that hard to
figure out, just look at what is selling in HO and N scales and translate it to
S scale size. There's no reason to believe 1/64 scale is any different than
1/87 or 1/160 when it comes to what scale modelers want to buy.
Lionel's first step should be adding an experienced scale modeler to their
decision making team so they can answer their own questions in house and not
end up going the wrong direction.If they really want to sell to scale modelers
their compromises in design need to be vetted by a scale modeler and not just
by the toy train buyers or the company ad men.
It's just a matter of their priorities and their vision of their future, it's
not a technically difficult problem to solve. They could just go to ebay and
buy some SHS products and study them which would get them 99% of the way there
with little cost or effort. I imagine many of us would even send them SHS stuff
to study if they said they would follow the SHS design philosophy for future
