I don't want to recommend this as a fix all but it is what I have done.

I used Microscale Trim Film decal paper.

I used a heat gun device to warm up the dry transfer.

I rubbed the dry transfer onto the trim film, CAREFULLY.

I coated with Microscale decal restorer.

I then applied the decal

I used the Microscale setting solution

I used the Microscale decal solvent solution

I used a top coat, dull or satin

I never tell anyone which models I've done that too.

I want to apologize  for referring to what I actually do instead of just an 
opinion piece.
