Shortly after posting this AM, I went on assignment for an engineering company that needs me to record some of their past projects and this one involves rail/road crossings. I'm attaching a quick shot I did of an elaborate crossing of the former MP Stettegust and SP's semi-famous Englewood Yard. The MP double main passed under the SP's hump yard proving there is a prototype for everything.

A few years ago the UP (since they now own nearly everything) replaced the interchange with heavier rail on concrete ties. Here is a medium closeup showing the contour of those ties. While I was there trains from all directions were aimed at that interchange--very much like a model RR staged shot. I was only there for an hour but 6 trains passed or were lined up to do so. One BNSF, one KCS and 4 UP's from three directions, plus the hump was active. I also noticed that none of the containers I have lettered would be useful in today's scheme of things. All the containers/TOFC's except for UPS and Fedex were labels we don't have decals for.

And since we're on the subject of rail and track, here's something on the availability of scale tie plates that some may not be aware of. http://monstermodelworks.com/index.php?ain_page=product_info&cPath=21&products_id=108 <http://monstermodelworks.com/index.php?ain_page=product_info&cPath=21&products_id=108>
