Tom, I wasn't comparing operations but the overall sizes. Seems to me that the HO Kadee's, the Stewart (Huff/Puff), the Sergent and the AM dummy are very close to each other in overall size.

One of our members runs the claws, but purchased a few cars that only work with the smaller sized couplers body mounted, so I make up a transition car. I had quite a time finding those old Ace mounting brackets to hold a claw. Don Heimberger came to the rescue on that one.

. . . . . . . With that being said let me question Matt and ask--what
American Models coupler?. . . . . . .

Since I don't do much switching, I like the AM dummy coupler -

Snaplock (3 pair) $5.95 CPL600

It couples just fine with the KD 802 and seems to be about the same size.
And it may well be more of a scale model of a real one than the KD is.
Since the KD coupler is not really a scale model of a real one, but a
modification to facilitate operating, they're hard to compare.

When my club runs trains on our show layout, if somebody finds a car at the end of the show when we're packing up with a KD on one end and an AM dummy
at the other end, that's my car.
