I’ve taken advantage of very few, short-lived lulls in my industrial jobs to work on the SAL B7 boxcar design. As of today, about 70% of the CAD work is done. The kit will include new brake parts, new draft gear box (based on John Degnan’s design), new 5/6/5 door and new photo-etched (stainless steel) stirrup steps, brake platform, roofwalk and side/end grabs.

The design work that is completed includes the body, underframe, brake parts, draft gear box, Ajax brake housing and tack boards. Work that remains includes the etched stirrups/grabs and the door. Next week’s schedule appears to have about a day’s worth of available time so I plan to take advantage of that and knock out the etched parts.

All new parts will be added to my detail parts line once the boxcar kit is in production.
