I am sitting here reeling from a phone call that a good friend passed last
night - without warning. I am really pretty wrecked at the moment.

While not known well here he has been a S Scaler of sorts for 20+ years. We
met while together in the South Jersey S Scalers/Gaugers. He had a
**substantial** S collection all that was never run once. What is worse is
**just 2 days ago** I was out to lunch with mutual friend Ken Davis saying
how Louie "better get started" on his layout. Since he lived at the shore it
was mentioned the layout was going to have pressure treated legs because he
house took water on the ground level. The living floor was 12 feet+ off the
ground so that was not a problem. All I could imagine was his layout
"swimming with da fishes" because it is reasonably possible for a brief
time. I said he should move out of there and get a house with a basement -
all things we have discussed may times.

Maybe I am the Whackadoo that places such great importance on having a
layout, like it is a pinnacle on someone's life. If it does not happen, it
was an opportunity lost. Lou is another long time S friend that was always
"about to do" something. There is always something standing in the way of
getting started - that was not just unique to Louie. It seems I have a
collection of them now.

My closing is this. If you have been "planning on starting your layout"
tomorrow for 20 years ***maybe you should start today***.

I'm out..

Thank You,
Bill Lane
