I have no issue with part-time manufacturers regardless of what they make. At one time, MR surveyed its readers and determined that about 95% of the respondents had fewer than 5 workers, making them a "cottage industry". Part-time is the norm in most hobbies.
My complaint is not in delayed products either. I'm just as guilty as others in not being "on time" (which is VERY relative term in model railroading!) with projects but I also have a full-time industrial customer base to cater to and that takes priority. Despite my delays, I still make an effort to inform all of my model RR customers as to the status of any project so they don't feel ignored. THAT'S my complaint with Gerry Glow . despite his family woes, he never took the time or had someone else on his behalf to write a 2 minute email stating that your order is being delayed, you haven't been forgotten, etc. My HO (not S) decals were paid for last August and have not been rec'd yet. I'm not alone; I know of 2 other HO modelers in the same boat but with even larger orders to fill. Regardless of his "quality" and VERY spotty service (which seems to be targeted toward his friends instead of his entire customer base), I will never recommend him again. Too bad . he has a lot of nice artwork that would do well for my future kits. Jim King President, Smoky Mountain Model Works, Inc. Ph.
