In the interview they mention that HO trains really aren't meant for that kind of long hard usage. A much smaller local layout built in a children's hospital has some of the same issues, with the worst performer being Thomas the Tank Engine.

I would hope that the S layout in Cleveland or Cincinnati ?? is getting better performance from their engines.

I do remember reading an article of a prior 0 layout in Chicago where it was stated that the side rods, bearings and most everything else that moved was totally worn out.
