I don't think anyone's done a conversion. The tapered friction bearing rods
appear more attractive to many, at least that's what I remember from my HO days.
However, seeing that all the drivers are gear driven on the AM Northern,
replacement rods could be made from brass or styrene as they don't carry a
load.
