The new issue of Classic Trains has a killer article on GP7 & GP9.

Just for a goof this afternoon I got out my torpedo top GP7 for the first
time in MANY years to eyeball it. I have never run it. I had visions of
happily machining out some new floor blank on my milling machine or chomping
a American Models drive to make it all fit on its way to a new drive. Some
years ago - possibly at Pontiac RRM had a table full of various Overland
diesel components. I thought I was done buying until I saw THAT. I went well
above and beyond the BROKE point.

I bought some gear tower wheel assemblies that might have been in the
original F unit drives. In 5 minutes time I saw they COULD be a ***direct
swap out*** for the Sunset parts. At 10:30 PM I drilled out the original
Sunset side frames for slightly larger axle ends. This idea has real
possibilities. I did not check for free rolling - YET. If I had known it
could be this easy I would have done it a long time ago. Complex is not
always the way to go.

SO - the original Sunset drive parts are now for sale. It is the wheels/gear
boxes and the belts which really look new. I could throw in the 2 Canon
single ended motors if you want them too. For this second I am keeping the
motor brackets.

Make me an offer directly. They could come to Scranton with me or get
dropped in a small box.

Thank You,
Bill Lane
