While I was at the NASG convention, I purchased two of the Des Plains X29 kits.
Immediately, my intention was to build these cars as Lehigh & New England 8000
series cars.
I did a bit of searching for correct details and lettering of these cars and
this is some of what I've found...

The L&NE purchased 200 X29/ ARA style boxcars in 1927 from the Pressed Steel
Car co. that were numbered 8001-8200 and then received another 300 cars from
the Magor Car co. numbered 8201-8500. These series of cars were very similar
to the PRR cars with the exception of Ajax hand brakes on the second order of
Magor cars and a later design of ARA trucks. All cars had the Youngstown,
corrugated doors. These cars were in Boxcar brown with a small LNE lettering on
the left and the well known " fried egg" herald on the upper right
In 1956 the L&NE 8001-8500 cars went through a rebuild having the roof's
replaced with the Murphy diagonal panel design, open square grid walks and
lowered, door tack boards. The cars were painted black with large LNE
lettering, "fried egg" herald and a white sill stripe.
The LNE met it's demise in 1960 when the railroad filed for abandonment. Many
of the above cars mentioned, went to the CNJ for another decade remaining in
their LNE paint and numbers with no visible CNJ reporting marks.
I will post photos of the cars discussed above for reference.
