Ed, I bought some of these on sale at Hobby Lobby a while back. We used them on Danny's recent layout with good success. They are easy to use and the tips are kinda like a magic marker so it flows where you put the tip. If you were to be painting the rail of a large layout you may wish to look into a less expensive solution.
My advice is to buy a stick or two and try it. The results are pretty good.
