Hi Bill ---- Those certificates I gave out at the general membership meeting were of my own doing and making. They were a complete surprise to everyone, as was intended. What I did not have the chance to tell is that those who got the ones in red covers got a bit more recognition than the others, and that includes Jim Kindraka, whose efforts over the last several years have really made a difference. I wish I could have made more of a fuss over them, but time constraints were pushing me along. As it was, I still have a couple in hand which will have to be mailed because the person left before the general meeting or did not attend the convention. Anyhow, these certificates are something I think should be given to all who contribute significantly to the NASG, and as far as I know, none have been given since I have been going to conventions. It was my little way of saying “thank you” to our guys who do so much.
Re: tolling the bell for the members who have gone to the great railroad beyond, that would be nice, but again time and even a list of them was not available. That might be a thing to do at the dinner, but it would be a real downer... What do you think of giving the awards at the general meeting as opposed to the dinner? Have fun! Bill Winans P.S. I had a hard time not giving away the BTMA results when I was at your home! -------------------------------- From: Willam Fraley Sent: Wednesday, August 14, 2013 8:23 AM To: [email protected] Subject: {S-Scale List} 2008 NASG Convention & This n' That! "On a side note, those who plan to have operations on their layout (I do) need to be ready to have people handle and occasionally damage a model, It just happens, no matter how careful people are, Best to realize that you built it, you can fix it if need be, Doesn't excuse carelessness, but it is fact of life. Pieter E. Roos" Hi, My layout was open Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday afternoon till 5:00 PM, lots of visitors. All went well, visitors were pleased, the trains ran well and I was able to show all the various operations of the layout. The layout itself was not up to par, it really needed cleaned up, but most of it was acceptable and plenty of photos were taken, so I guess it wasn't as bad as I felt it was. Only one time did I have to demonstrate what a "Duck-under" was and Dick Karnes caught the moment! (See attached image) Must admit! Not bad for an 83 year old. Burp! Many Awards and Meritorious Service Certificates, were handed out at our business meeting. I believe this is somewhat new and a well needed "Thank You" to those who silently serve us.. "All were well earned." Treasurer, Jim Kindrakas reports are of big value when published. Congratulations to Bill Winans and all the others who have stepped forward to help run our association into our new time periods. Frankly, my feelings are that the entire convention was well run with very few "hiccups" and that Jamie pulled all this off, mostly on his own, with everyone chipping to help him when needed, this shows what a great group of people we have in our association, I'm so happy to be a member since 1962. Also, regards to Sam McCoy who headed up this NASG group for five years. WOW! Not an easy task at times. When I think back to that time in 2008, I remember Wally Collins saying to me when he had just attended the Chicago convention, that he found a good modeler who would make and excellent president. It was Sam McCoy. I miss Wally, Frank Titman and so many other great S gaugers who have passed on to a greater life, or have stepped aside due to poor health in the past 5 years, but this is life! So be it! It would bode us well if we would recognize those that have passed on from one year to the next. Hey! Run those trains, before it's too late! Happy Rails to you, till we meet again! "S"ee Ya, Bill Fraley
