Hi Guys

It's been a busy week since Scranton. Great show Jamie!

First, John Prior of Swindon, England, who attended the Scranton convention,
followed that up with some railfanning in southern Ontario. At my invitation,
he dropped by for a visit last Tuesday afternoon and stayed for supper. The
photo shows him in the layout room where my Port Dover Module, which was part of
our S Scale Workshop display at Scrantion, is back on its "L" girders awaiting
re-installation. It was great to host John who possesses serious knowledge of
North American railroading.

It was also great fun to show our layout to an exclusively S scale crowd
instead of the usual public train show. For one thing, we didn't have to
explain the scale to anyone. Scranton was the last show my Port Dover and
Culverhouse modules will be travelling to. They are now being permanently
retired to my basement to anchor the home layout. Tasks ahead include detailing
the hand painted backdrop behind the layout, stripping out some redundant or
superfluous wiring, and repairing and upgrading some of the scenery which has
had a hard life the last half dozen years. Particularly the trees

Last night (FNF) I stood Culverhouse on its end and removed the grey Woodlands
Scenics ballast. It was never a favourite colour of mine but conformed with our
group specifications. I will now replace it with the pit run gravel ballast
that is more typical of southern Ontario branchline railroading.

I have committed to having my home layout on next year's NMRA, Niagara Frontier
Region Grapevine Express layout tour, so that should be the kick in the pants I
need to get moving on the rest of the layout.

One other bit of news: Jamie Bothwell has become the newest addition to the S
Scale Workshop and plans to build a module that he'll leave up here in Canada
for us to use on his behalf. He'll also try to attend the odd show with us.
Why Jamie wants to belong to any group that would have him as a member, is
something of a mystery, but we welcome him aboard just the same.

Cheers
Jim Matin
