List members,
Over the weekend I received an advance copy of October's Model
Railroader. In the new products section is a mention of the S Scale
America's X-29. I don't purchase every issue of any general RRing
magazine but I think it's been awhile since a major S product
announcement has appeared.
Additionally, a local modeler and misplaced Pennsy fan has his layout
featured in the magazine. Despite the fact that it's an HO/HO3 layout
two S guys worked on the production. Rusty Paulus spent the better part
of two days sketching the track-plan and I spent that much time shooting
the photos. In putting together these articles I'm always surprised how
much work is involved in drawings, getting accurate descriptions and
trying to relay the proper feel in the layout's description.
I'll mention one thing regarding the photo coverage. I was faced with a
double deck layout that had nearly continuous fluorescent fixtures and
very low ceilings. This is normally great for viewing and building but
it represents an dull overcast day. This is fine for some shots, but I
felt the need to add some visual contrast, light/shadow and a sheen here
and there. I made up my own light fixture that worked rather well and
was closely balanced to what was already there.
