Both data and metadata are cached locally and uploaded to the background
asynchronously to improve performance. The cache is stored in the
directory specified with --cachedir.
The only difference between the treatment of data and metadata is the
upload frequency. Data is uploaded when the cache is filled or if a
block hasn't been modified for 5 or more seconds. Metadata is uploaded
every --metadata-upload-interval (default 24h). This because during a
metadata upload there is a period where all access to the file system
is blocked.
