Communist Party of Swaziland 1 May 2019 Communist Party of Swaziland's message on Workers' Day: We must end capitalism if we want freedom – Socialism is our only chance!
The Communist Party of Swaziland greets all workers and the class oppressed in our country and everywhere on the occasion of 1 May, Workers' Day. Let us use this occasion not merely to voice solidarity with one another but to reinvigorate our strategies to create a better world free from capitalism. For it is capitalism that is the enemy of not just workers but of humanity in general. It is capitalism that – in its global imperialist manifestation – is destroying the futures of the poor majority of humanity, and prosecuting a continual state of warfare worldwide that threatens to lead to a major conflagration. It is capitalism – which in the last 40 or so years in its more raw and stripped down exploitative form which we know as neo-liberalism – that is destroying the planet through environmental destruction and mass species extinction. It is capitalism that through the destruction of workers’ hard won rights is making the whole arena of labour a pitiless dog-eat-dog struggle for existence. It is capitalism that fuels the re-emergence of slavery and exploitation of trafficked labour. It is capitalism that is destroying the security that decent work should offer, and by enforcing conditions of deep insecurity in how life is lived, in creating a pandemic of mental illness across the globe. The Mswati regime and its tinkhundla government is capitalist, trapped in feudalistic practices, and expresses the worst form of the evils of the capitalist system. Unless we target capitalism as the enemy, as the social and economic construct that must be overthrown, we will not bring about the liberation that only socialism can offer. Without socialism there will be no chance to end the destruction of the environment. Without socialism we will never have decent work for all, rooted in strong internationally recognised rights. Without socialism we will not be able to end the threat of war or build peaceful societies where everyone has equal opportunities to live, learn, work and create without being exploited. Only socialism offers us a way to a better world. Unless we build it and create a new vision of liberated humankind, we will be condemned to repeat the errors and crimes that capitalism perpetuates. Now more than ever people everywhere in the world see that capitalism is the problem. It is the destructive force that ruins our lives. Now more than ever we need to fight back against this enemy, not adopt its ways, and paint the vision of a definite future all workers deserve free from exploitation and the poverty, misery, and destruction it imposes.
