Yuck. The point of the hardware is that people have regular remote access to a range of computing environments. Forcing physical reboots to switch OS's would be a major pain and inconvenience. Also, say I want to set up a script to automatically test the SAGE build and doctests on redhat, suse, and ubuntu -- this is impossible if rebooting into each OS is required, but very reasonable if it isn't.
