Ok, I consider this vote closed and since there were only "+1" votes also a positive conclusion has been reached.
As a first step for 3.2.1.a1 I have created #4615 which makes boehm_gc a default spkg. It is optional now and has gotten some decent build testing via the optional M2.spkg, so things should be relatively smooth here (famous last words). Any more thoughts?
