I was wondering if there was any logic in creating a 4.3.0.1 release,
which is just 4.3 with
http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/6595
integrated. That would allow Sage to build on Solaris 10 (SPARC),
irrespective of whether the Sun compilers were present.
See the URL
http://sage.math.washington.edu/home/mvngu/sage-src/sage-4.3.0.1.tar
for a first try. It's just Sage 4.3.1.alpha1 renamed as version
4.3.0.1. Note that Sage 4.3.1.alpha1 is essentially the same as Sage
4.3.1.alpha0 [1]. The build of Sage 4.3.0.1 is still going on t2.math.
That will not work. I tried to build Sage 4.3.1.alpha1 and it failed on my home
machine. I think sage 4.3 with
http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/8088
added is the safest option. 4.3 should hopefully be a 'stable' release, whereas
the alphas are less so.
Hence I think whatever changes took place that broke the Solaris 10 build,
occurred between 4.3 and 4.3.1.alpha1. As far as I know, alpha0 and alpha1 were
the same, except one package was duplicated.
I must admit, gcc is not being overhelpful over this, as it exits with a ton of
warnings, but no actual error message. I've tried with a couple of versions of
gcc, on both my home machine and 't2' and problem is repeatable.
