Speaking of syntax and matrices, let's not forget the seemingly bizarre behavior one gets when one does sage: trace(M) for a matrix M. I can imagine this putting people off... Perhaps the trace command should detect matrix inputs and print a helpful error message at the very least? -- Robert L.
