+1 Sometimes a picture says more than a thousand words ;-) I'd say its fine (encouraged, even) to include graphics in the documentation if they help understanding what is going on. We should not include tons of graphics as doctests, a la: here is a picture of an ellipse, a square, a triangle, ...
