Ok so what's the point of having an autotools package?
To enforce people using it?
I must admit I rarely use anything provided by Sage itself when tweaking 
packages (except for testing...).
I'd better use my own system-wide mercurial and autotools, but I guess that 
could change.

And that does not answer the question to know if we should track the 
changes to the autogenerated files or not :)
