Just for the record, over here in the "Python world", we already have rpy2. Here is a link to the introduction of the latest stable version: http://rpy.sourceforge.net/rpy2/doc-2.2/html/introduction.html This is, in my eyes, just the best we can have. It's an independent module, you can use it from all other python tools (-> convergence effect), and although a bit confusing at the beginning, it is a nice abstraction (R is different than Python, there will always be some limits).
