The PPL spkg should really make sure it doesn't break (the system-wide) GCC before installing its libraries... (and perhaps otherwise create symlinks to the system-wide PPL libs; not sure whether the headers would be compatible, i.e., if Sage's could be used in case ppl-devel isn't installed).
