>From Sage-centric point of view, one reason for this is that commutative algebra in Sage is a mess, and the multivariate polynomial backend hardcodes Singular. I (and many others - e.g. people really want Macaulay2 advanced functionality, e.g. resolutions, available) really would like to see an improvement here.
