Do you have/know a developer working on it? Shell or m4 or whatever to fold detection in? The authors of these packages ought to have canonical tests for existence/version that can be included. Although I am retired, and as a result not as sharp as I should be, I was a software engineer, and can work with the SAGE engineers to help make this happen. It all follows a pattern, and design decisions can be made. I will go and read what was written in trac.
