Hello,

I had a few questions about the project proposal: About how long is it
> expected to be? Besides reviewing the recommendations on the Sage Wiki
> <https://wiki.sagemath.org/GSoC/2016>, are there any other tips to follow
> for writing a successful proposal?

Speaking generally and only from the point of view of someone who wrote a
successful proposal for GSoC with Sage, there is no specific permitted
length for the proposal. It can be as long as you need it to be, although
being precise and concise will be helpful. Of course, you should try and
get as much feedback as possible from the mentor(s) on the drafts to refine
and improve the proposal. Sage has had a recommended template
<https://wiki.sagemath.org/GSoC/Students> for several previous iterations
of the program which should be followed.

On a more personal note, I would definitely suggest breaking down the
entire project into well-defined modules (and sub-modules if and as needed)
and discussing ways in which those can be completed. And another thing to
note is that, getting code merged successfully into Sage can take time and
if later modules depend on previous ones, determining what is acceptable
and achievable for completing the project should be reflected in the
timeline. Also, you should link and describe the ticket(s) you have worked
on so far.

Do write back if you have any further questions.

Sincerely,
Arpit Merchant.
