Looking more closely at the sniffer trace, it seems to be a problem on the Mac OS X side. The rules say that a reset should bump the sequence number returned to the remote end, and that isn't happening. The upshot is that the RST packets are malformed, and the remote (sage.math) is correctly ignoring them and continuing to send data into the pipe (until it hits a stall point).
