I think that better is to use scalable fonts. this should be default in modern distribution. What exactly you have installed? texlive? from where, from texlive homepage or from centos repository?
Try to compile you ps into PDF (using ps2pdf), open PDF document, go to the document - properties and you should see the fonts used in the PDf file. Check that there are only scalable fonts. There shoud be no Type3 font! Or put the ps or pdf file somewhere and post link.
