Just for the record, I worked-around the issue by running the build
under a 32-bit personality of the kernel (see linux32).
Do you mean that you were compiling for x86 with an amd64 kernel? This
issue has indeed come up before for OSX systems. If your kernel +
userland are both x86 then there should be no problems.
