Yes, precisely: 64-bit kernel with 32-bit userland.
Some programs configurations don't detect appropriately that they should be
compiled in a 32-bit environment.

Yes, that's the "easy" case, which is what I "forced"/worked around by
running the build process under the linux 32 personality. For more
