'''Short version:''' by making the order option part of the definition of
the element and parent classes for partitions you loose the benefits of
caching for partitions and for Partitions._list. Is this worth it? I am
not sure that I see the benefit especially as, in practice, the order
"option" is processed in the code in exactly the same way as the "real"
options.
