Oh there is this gem in `sage.env`:
{{{
# set any variables that are already in os.environ
for var in SAGE_ENV:
try:
exec(var + ' = os.environ[var]')
except KeyError:
pass
}}}
So `HOSTNAME` is again the actual hostname, and you can't grep for it.
