There are only temporary files in there, so deleting them is not that much
of an issue. Much worse is that pids get reused, the temp directory
contains an old `spawned_processes`, and then on shutdown random old pids
are SIGKILLed.
Bash sets HOSTNAME, but does not export it. The bash profile often exports
HOSTNAME among other environment variables. Any further discussion on how
and when bash sets HOSTNAME please on a separate ticket.
