delayed for efficiency reasons. Fixing that would probably cause
unacceptable loss of performance in other places.
Is that actually true? This is about constructing a parent, after all.
Though maybe somebody who actually wrote the category code could chime in
and tell us what he/she envisioned and where it is documented (j/k).
