I can't really, for I define a function inside of the main function -- you
can't do that in Cython -- and it would behave differently with respect to
caching if I moved the function outside.
Plus we're not there yet... If there was a lot of doc to write it would be
worth creating a module for only one function, but it isn't deserved here
