I applied trac_5736-rebase.patch to 3.4.2.rc0 on sage.math and long
doctests pass.
William: Any chances you had crap in your tree unrelated to this patch?
While it is too late for 3.4.2 this patch raises coverage by 0.2% [aside
from all the nice bug fixes :)], so it really ought to go into 4.0.
Changing to "needs review" again.
