Update: v6 patch will compain about one hunk not applying - just ignore
it, it is no longer needed.
On 5.12: compiles and passes all tests.
Basically I think the code is solid on this one, but it needs extensive
work to fully document and doctest. And then it would be a big effort to
slowly integrate in.
