 I put my changes in the branch `u/tscrim/tutte_polynomial-1314` and
 reverted back the public branch. It seems like I'm making a whole bunch of
 extra function calls that I have NO idea why...stuff it getting put into
 the cache as it should, everything is calling the internal function... IMO
 this is a better way of doing things, but something is being hyper-
 sensitive.

 Anyways, I did make a few tweaks. I put `initial_call` as the last
 argument to make the user less likely to touch it. I also allowed the
 cache to take non-keyword arguments. I also made some other micro-
 optimizations by moving the `if edge_selector is None:` into the
 `initial_call` block and moved the `x,y = R.gens()`.
