The problem is we can't currently do any preprocessing on the arguments
for `@cached_function`(like we do for `UniqueRepresentation`), or at least
that I'm aware of. So if we pass in a mutable graph, we can't convert it
into something immutable and `@cached_function` returns an error (or do
any other form of standardization).
